BOOK “THE HAMMER” FOR YOUR SPECIAL EVENT

Fundraising | Education | Awareness

Many themes in the film resonate with a diverse range of audiences. (LGBTQ, Prison Reform, Faith….) The film encourages and enriches social conversations around topics such as human rights.

There’s something to be said about the power of this film when seen in a theater and/or community setting. This is the reason why we will help in any way we can so that you can screen it for your community.

We have partnered with a company called Proludio which provides the film to their national network of ARTHOUSE THEATERS (in form below) without the enormous costs usually associated with screening a film. Should you want to organize a screening at any of those theatres for your event, just let us know via the form below.

With other theaters, there are more costs involved. Please inquire with your local theater. As soon as you have a place to screen, we can get you the film.

Some theaters may wish to run the film for a few days or a week and do a ticket share with us, which would mean there is NO screening fee for those events.

Please CONTACT US for options.

Angela Shelton talks about the “real story” making this film:

In 2010, I was on stage speaking at a 140 Conference hosted by Jeff Pulver (co-founder VONAGE), sharing healing techniques for moving on from traumas like domestic violence and child sexual abuse. Doc Dixon was there sharing ways to begin prison reform. We met and became instant friends. While on a road trip later that year I stopped to stay with Doc and his wife, Linda. We stayed up drinking wine and listening to Doc’s prison stories because when you’re around Doc, you get A LOT of prison stories.

When he shared about how his best friend - George “THE HAMMER” Martin had started boxing inside and was undefeated. He won every fight he ever fought. When inmates and admins would ask how he did it, he would hit his chest and say, “I got Heart, Baby!” I listened to Doc share how he became George’s cornerman when the warden started bringing in “free world” fighters to fight George. After he knocked them all out, including the Golden Gloves Champion AND heavyweight fighter JOHN TATE, George was given a chance to fight in the 1984 Olympics.

I was riveted on the edge of my seat, expecting to hear the story of how George got out and won the Olympics. But Doc got really sad telling me how George had said no. He didn’t go. He refused to when the Warden and the Olympic coach wouldn’t approve his one request of bringing someone with him. (I won’t reveal any more because you need to SEE IT!)

The tears started as I watched Doc relive his experiences. He shared how the Warden took away all boxing after George turned down the Olympics. There were no more “Friday Night Fights.” George ended up getting sick and eventually he got a compassionate release to get out, and go die. It was a very different walk to freedom than any of his admin and inmate friends expected to see - especially his best friend.

The last time Doc saw George was 1993 when he watched him walk out of the gates.

I was crying like a baby at that point and said this needed to be a movie!! Doc said it would make a good movie and that only I could do it.

Five years later we were on set! I was directing the script I wrote about them and producing it. The major part of producing is paperwork and we were missing some for our insurance policy. Since it was a true story, people needed to be deceased or we needed their approval for their rights. We had neither with George and couldn’t find his death certificate - WE FOUND HIM! He was STILL ALIVE!!

I got to see Doc and George reunited just in time to write a part for both of them to appear in the movie together.

Not only does the film have a happy ending (somewhat) but simply by making this film we reunited two best friends. They play the counselor and the officer who let the actor playing George out of prison and once you know the truth behind that scene, you understand why the two men on screen have tears in their eyes!

The film is called THE HAMMER after George “The Hammer” Martin.

The three of us, along with George’s wife Rita are doing a limited PODCAST series called HEART, BABY! that tells the WHOLE STORY.

This film brings up A LOT! It’s complex, just like we humans are. From faith to transgender awareness to prison reform to just being a good human being - it makes you think about your own life and what you are doing in it.

I have to say after working in Hollywood and seeing the utter lack of humanity on so many levels, the men I have been able to trust the most and who stand by their word are those who served life in prison. Making this film opened my eyes and my heart on so many levels.

That’s why this film is so important to all of us. It will knock you out with THE HAMMER and open and heal your HEART, BABY!

  • Support a local or national PRISON REFORM organization and have a talk afterwards.

  • Host a TRANSGENDER Rights and Awareness award ceremony.

  • Bring your CHURCH and testify!

  • Support CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS like we are doing in Plattsburg on April 26th.

HALLELUJAH! We LOVE out of the box thinking!
